Before installing a new Blogger theme, make sure you have backed up your theme files to avoid any errors that might occur.

Backing Up Blogger Themes

Follow these steps to back up blogger themes:

  1. Go to Blogger Dashboard.
  2. Select the Theme menu.
  3. Click the Dropdown Icon (Down Arrow Icon which is next to the Customize Button). Select the Backup menu.
  4. A popup dialog will appear, click the DOWNLOAD button.

If the Blogger Theme has been backed up, then you can proceed to install it with the following steps.

Installing Blogger Theme

There are several ways to install a Blogger Theme, namely the Upload Method, Copy-Paste Method and Overwrite Method. You can choose one of them. Here are the differences between some of these methods:

  1. Installing Blogger Theme with Upload Method - All Blogger widgets that were in the old theme will remain (not deleted).
  2. Installing Blogger Theme with Copy-Paste Method - All the widgets that were in the old Theme will be removed.
  3. Installing Blogger Theme with Overwrite Method - Useful if Upload Method and Copy-Paste Method failed to use.

Installing Blogger Theme with Upload Method

Installing a Blogger Theme with the Upload Method is highly recommended if you are still using the same theme. (Using the previous version of Materia X2).

Please note, if you use this method, all Blogger widgets that were in the old theme will remain (not deleted). If you want to delete everything (The widgets and it's settings in the old template), then you can Install Blogger Theme using Copy-Paste Method.

Before proceeding, make sure you have Backed up your Blogger Theme. Next, you can follow these steps to install a Blogger theme or template with Upload Method:

  1. Go to Blogger Dashboard.
  2. Select the Theme menu.
  3. Click the Dropdown Icon (Down Arrow Icon which is next to the Customize Button). Select the Restore menu.
  4. A popup dialog will appear, click the UPLOAD button.
  5. Select the Theme File you want to use (The .xml file).

Installing Blogger Theme with Copy-Paste Method

Installing a Blogger Theme with the Copy-Paste Method is highly recommended if you don't or have never used the same theme. (Never used the Materia X2 Theme before).

If you use this method, all the widgets that were in the old Theme will be removed. If you want all the widgets on the old template to remain, then you can Install Blogger Theme using the Upload Method.

Before proceeding, make sure you have Backed up your Blogger Theme. Next, you can follow these steps to install a Blogger theme or template with Upload Method:

  1. Open the Theme File (The .xml file) using the Text Editor (Like Notepad, Notepad ++, Sublime Text, Visual Studio Code, Atom, etc.) and copy all the code by pressing CTRL + A (Select All) then CTRL + C (Copy) on the Keyboard.
  2. Go to Blogger Dashboard.
  3. Select the Theme menu, Click the Dropdown Icon (Down Arrow Icon which is next to the Customize Button). Select the Edit HTML menu.
  4. Select all Theme codes by pressing CTRL + A (Select All) and paste the code that you copied earlier by pressing CTRL + v (Paste) on the keyboard.
  5. Finally, click the Save button (diskette icon) to save changes that have been made.

Installing Blogger Theme with Overwrite Method

This method is an alternative to the Upload Method and the Copy-Paste Method if you feel that both methods have failed to use. Follow these steps:

  1. Go to Blogger Dashboard.
  2. Select the Theme menu.
  3. Use Blogger Default Theme first. You can use Default Blogger Themes named Contempo, Soho, Emporio, Leading, etc.
  4. Then you can repeat one of the steps to install the Blogger Theme above with the Upload Method or Copy-Paste Method.

Blogger Settings

Mobile Settings

This setting is useful for disabling or enabling Mobile settings on the Materia X2 theme.

Basically, the Materia X2 theme is very responsive. This means that the Materia X2 theme will adapt automatically to all screen sizes such as desktop and mobile screens.

In this case, we recommend disabling the Desktop settings because as mentioned above, the Materia X2 theme is very responsive. Follow these steps:

  1. Go to Blogger Dashboard.
  2. Select the Theme menu, Click the Dropdown Icon (Down Arrow Icon which is next to the Customize Button). Select the Mobile settings menu.
  3. There are two radio button options. Select Mobile.
  4. Finally, click the SAVE button to save changes that have been made.
If you set Mobile settings and select the Desktop radio button. Then all the features in the Desktop screen will appear. We do not recommend this.
